Shou Sugi Ban
Shou Sugi Ban, also known as Yakisugi, is a traditional Japanese technique for preserving wood by charring its surface with fire. This process creates a durable, black, carbonised layer that protects the wood from rot, pests, water, and fire.
The charred wood is then cleaned and often finished with a natural oil, providing a distinctive, long-lasting, and low-maintenance exterior cladding for buildings and other applications.
