A Sublime Melbourne Hair Salon Using Timber Acoustics

A Sublime Melbourne Hair Salon Using Timber Acoustics

A hop, skip and jump down the road from Melbourne’s Chadstone shopping precinct is Cocolocks Hair Salon. Redesigned by Canopy Fitouts, the interior has a sophisticated aesthetic with paired-back materials. Canopy Fitouts have used Glosswood’s Acoustic Panels on multiple commercial projects for the quick installation on site, range of prefinished colours and the acoustic qualities. The Canopy design team selected colour Clear Ash for the stunning blonde tones that balance the matte black finishes in the interior.

Design Considerations.

The Cocolocks hair salon has a soft-contemporary feel, using modern techniques and innovative products. It is both a sanctuary for clients as they receive hair treatments, while also a sleek yet functional place to work. Initially the timber panels were only to be installed as a feature wall, however the salon owner was so happy with the effectiveness of the Acoustics they expanded on the original design. The custom Acoustics now wrap around the desk, main bulkhead and hallway.

Materiality.

It’s no secret that hair salons can be loud; It’s often a battle between the noise of hairdryers, juggling multiple clients and hard reverberative surfaces. From the initial design, Canopy Fitouts insisted on using Glosswood’s Acoustic Panels. We have been using Glosswood for the majority of our commercial interior fitouts, and it’s safe to say that their timber Lining Boards and Acoustic Panels always look amazing when they are installed,” Canopy designer Sam Fossati explains. “Glosswood’s Acoustics make our feature walls, reception walls and breakout spaces pop! We will continue to use their great range of products for projects to come,” Sam says. The Acoustics are made from natural timber with acoustic scrim fabric in between the battens, and have been NRC tested.
