This project features the recent home completed by Madeleine Blanchfield Architects (MBA), who won the national design competition run by Mirvac and House & Garden. To win the competition the home had to be sustainable, flexible and future-proof. MBA were involved from concept to completion, and have created a truly beautiful home. Architect Madeleine Blanchfield was eager to incorporate Glosswood lining boards from the early design stage. Our timber has become one of the key features in this timeless home as it is prefinished and sustainable.
The orientation of the build and connection to the outdoors was crucial in the design. Because of this, the main living area was designed at the back of the house, opening out to the backyard. This takes advantage of the natural lighting and airflow. The Glosswood boards were installed by Top Knot Carpentry in this communal space, as well as in the external eaves. The boards assist in creating a connect between the indoor/outdoor living space. It is evident that every detail of this project has been considered by MBA, and the profile of the lining board is no exception. The team decided to use the narrower 90mm board (compared to the 130mm) as it creates movement throughout the interior.
Madeleine was drawn to our Clear Ash lining boards due to the light tone and the character of using real timber. “The Glosswood Timber Lining Boards on the ceiling bring texture to the living areas,” says Madeleine. “By running them out under the eaves, it reinforces the flow between indoors and out.” The satin Clear Ash boards also blend well with the other timber elements of the home.
The design team chose Glosswood as they were drawn to the natural timber grain, and beautiful light tones of the Clear Ash lining boards.
This finished home is warm and liveable, and is a great addition to Madeleine Blanchfield Architects’ portfolio of residential projects.
